The canyon is incredibly vast with depths of 800 feet in some areas. You can go horseback riding or hiking, and if you want you can even hit the trails with your mountain bike. If you want to stay overnight or a few days, the park offers cabin rentals, and sites for tents and RVs.
Another popular destination is Padre Island. This is a long barrier island off the coast. It stretches for about 130 miles along the coast of Texas. There are many opportunities for wildlife viewing along the seashore, as well as activities such as boating or fishing. Located on the southern tip of the island is a lovely little resort community called South Padre Island. If you want to venture out past the Alamo, there are plenty of other things to do. You can explore the Natural Bridge Caverns, where you just might get lucky while panning for precious gems.
